ABOUT THE ROLE

Dupe VFX is looking for a creative leader to join the team at our East London Studio. The successful candidate will have empathy and passion running through their veins and ready to steward a variety of shows with our small but impactful team. The role will include leadership in helping Dupe grow onto bigger and bolder projects, whilst also maintaining an excellent working environment for our team of superstars.

As Compositing Supervisor you will play a key role in driving the direction of our 2D team at a show and department level. You will be responsible for creating and supervising production workflows that allow your team to work at scale as well as ensuring high technical and creative quality. You will be the creative bridge between clients, VFX supervisors and the comp team as well as working across departments to come up with the best creative solutions in an efficient and scalable way. You will have finely tuned observational skills and be able to spot problems and suggest solutions that others miss.

SKILLS

• Advanced understanding of Nuke compositing software.
• Look-development of both 2D and CG style shots.
• Ability to template Nuke scripts for efficient multi-shot workflows.
• Ability to create efficient Nuke scripts and troubleshoot bugs and efficiency issues. 
• Advanced compositing of 3D lighting and tech passes.
• Clear communication of compositing needs to the 3D department.
• Understanding of Python scripting and ability to communicate clearly with the pipeline department.
• Ability to sell creative solutions and ideas to the VFX Supervisors.
• Ability to reduce complex problems to their most simple solutions.
• Thorough understanding of the complete VFX pipeline.
• Highly organised proven team leader with strong motivational skills.
• Proactive and an excellent communicator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interpreting the creative vision of the VFX Supervisor and providing a clear, consistent, creative brief to the team.
• Delivering the highest quality work to the VFX Supervisor and presenting opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Presenting work to clients in an engaging and charismatic way.
• Providing concise and constructive feedback and ensuring the artists are directed to reach milestones and show targets.
• Supporting the use of consistent department processes as well as designing more effective workflows and training.
• Communicating with all departments to manage dependencies and improve efficiency.
• Breaking down the work for HoDs to ensure they can provide the most appropriate comp team.
• Resolving conflicts of workflow approach between the teams/shows.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years of professional VFX experience in Film or TV.
• Compositing Supervisor or Sequence Lead experience.
• Proven experience in Nuke compositing software.
• The ideal candidate will have experience in:
• Nuke Python API.
• 3D and emerging VFX technologies.
• Colour management.
• Photography and filmmaking.

About the role

As a Mid & Senior Compositor at Dupe, you will combine live action, photographic and CG elements into a believable shot. We will ask you to be creative, analytical and efficient in achieving the creative vision of our clients and VFX supervisors. You should ideally be based in/around London or at least living in the UK, keen to learn and share knowledge, playing your part in the team to produce great work in a positive environment. We want you to pay attention to both the aesthetics and the technical aspects.

Responsibilities:

• Assessing your own work on a creative and technical level.
• Taking feedback from your supervisor in a positive and collaborative manner.
• 2D tracking, keying, colour matching, roto and paint.
• Working collaboratively across other departments to achieve the best result most efficiently. 
• Demonstrating an understanding of lighting, photography and perspective.
• Managing your workload and being calm under deadlines.

Skills and Experience:

• 3+ years as a VFX professional using Nuke.
• Relevant degree/training course is a plus.
• Strong aesthetic skills in judging photo-realism, perspective and colour.
• Strong sense of composition, colour and design.
• Experience with Linux.
• Skills in Nuke expressions, gizmos and Python is a plus.
